Why people leave Connecteam

Connecteam's reviews are mostly positive: 4.6 on Capterra from 5,322 reviews and 4.7 on Trustpilot from 1,914. The complaints that do come up repeat, and six of them are reasons to switch. Each one below is in the reviewers' own words, followed by the tool that fixes it.

1. Costs climb past 10 users and features sit behind higher tiers

The Small Business Plan is free for up to 10 users. Past that, each of the three hubs (Operations, Communications, HR and Skills) has its own price, and many tools need the Advanced or Expert tier. A 50-person team on the Operations Hub's Advanced plan pays $49 plus 20 extra users at $2.50, or $99 a month billed yearly, before chat or HR.

“Too many upgrade fees if you need more functionality.”mykeexio, App Store, Dec 2025
“Learning curve for some features and the 3 category pricing gets expensive for companies larger than 10 users.”Brendan A., Capterra, Jun 2026

Where to go: Homebase for a large team at one site ($24 a month per location billed annually, unlimited employees), Sling for free scheduling up to 30 users, or Jibble if you only need a time clock.

2. No built-in payroll

Connecteam exports hours to Gusto, QuickBooks, Xero, Paychex Flex, ADP and others, but it doesn't pay anyone, and its free Small Business Plan leaves out the payroll integrations.

“I wish it included direct payroll, and invoicing within the app so that we could pay our employees directly from the time sheets they submit”Shane C., Capterra, Jun 2026

Where to go: Homebase, which runs full-service payroll in the same app. Restaurants can look at 7shifts Payroll, and US teams on Deputy's annual Core or Pro plans can add payroll run by Paycor.

3. Employees object to the Always location setting

A 2026 app update asks employees to set Connecteam's location access to “Always” before they can clock in, and App Store reviewers are angry about it. Connecteam's help center says it doesn't share or store location when an employee is clocked out; we explain the details in Connecteam location tracking.

“There is no need to check my location when I’m not clocked in.”Collin156, App Store, Aug 2026

Where to go: a shared kiosk, so no one installs anything on a personal phone. Jibble's free plan includes kiosk clock-in with facial recognition, and Homebase captures photos at clock-in on tablets from Essentials. Connecteam has its own kiosk with PIN or selfie, so try that before you switch.

4. App bugs and missed notifications

Reviewers on both app stores report glitches after updates and push notifications that arrive late or not at all.

“As of recently, the app keeps glitching, and I have to delete it and redownload it to fix the issue.”girldad90, App Store, May 2026

Where to go: we can't point to a clear fix. Sling's 100 newest Google Play reviews average 2.66, below Connecteam's 3.48, with the same complaints. If this is your reason, run any replacement on your staff's own phones during its trial before you move everyone.

5. Support starts with an AI chat and there is no phone line

Connecteam's human agents get good marks, but reaching them means going through the AI assistant first, and there is no phone number to call.

“The AI chat is not helpful to new customers to Connecteam.”Shelly, Trustpilot, Jul 2026

Where to go: Homebase, whose pricing page lists live chat and phone support from the Essentials plan up.

6. Too much to learn for the admin

Connecteam does a lot, and admins say that takes time to set up and learn.

“The number of options can also make the platform feel overwhelming at first.”Nikki C., Capterra, Aug 2026

Where to go: a narrower tool. Sling and When I Work are built around the schedule, and Jibble around the time clock. You give up forms, training and documents.

One more gap comes from an expert review: Fit Small Business lists no labor forecasting among Connecteam's cons. Restaurants that schedule from sales forecasts should look at 7shifts or Deputy.

The 6 best Connecteam alternatives

  1. Homebase

Payroll, phone support, unlimited staff per location

Homebase fixes three of the reasons on this page. It runs full-service payroll ($49 a month plus $6 per paid employee, first six months free). Its paid plans include live chat and phone support. And it prices per location with unlimited employees, so Essentials costs $24 a month billed annually ($30 monthly) whether you have 15 staff or 60. But onboarding, e-sign and HR tools sit on All-in-One ($96 a month billed annually), and we found no training courses. Its free plan covers one location and up to 10 employees.

  2. Sling

Free, simpler scheduling for up to 30 users

Sling (owned by Toast) does one job, scheduling, and it's free for up to 30 users. Paid plans cost $1.70 or $3.40 per user a month billed annually and add a time clock with geofencing. It's easier to learn because it does less: no forms, training or e-sign. Its Android app is a real risk. Sling's 100 newest Google Play reviews average 2.66, below Connecteam's 3.48 on the same measure, with crashes and missed notifications as the main complaints.

  3. Jibble

Free time clock for unlimited users

Jibble's time tracking is free for any number of users, with kiosk clock-in and facial recognition on the free plan. A shared kiosk means staff don't need the app on their own phones. Jibble is a time clock, though: we found no team chat, forms or training, and its paid plans no longer have a public price. Its app also offers live location tracking, so check the permissions it asks for.

  4. 7shifts

    Restaurants: tips, forecasting, payroll

7shifts is built for restaurants. Premium ($134.99 a month per location, billed annually) includes tip management and an hourly labor forecast, two things Connecteam doesn't offer, and 7shifts sells its own payroll. Check its reviews first: the 19 unprompted Trustpilot reviews in our pull average 1.16, and most describe payroll errors, tip-pool problems or billing disputes.

  5. Deputy

    Demand forecasting and partner payroll

Deputy adds demand forecasting and auto-scheduling on its Core plan ($6.50 per user a month billed annually), and in the US it offers payroll run by Paycor on annual Core and Pro plans ($8 per user plus $49 a month). There is no free plan, monthly plans carry a $30 minimum spend, and HR tools are a $2 per user add-on. Its 20 unprompted Trustpilot reviews in our pull average 1.25.

  6. When I Work

    Low per-user scheduling

When I Work is a scheduling-first tool from $2.50 per user a month, with time tracking as a $1.50 to $2 add-on. It covers scheduling, time tracking and team messaging without Connecteam's separate hubs. It has no public free plan, and we found no forms, training or e-sign. It points payroll customers to Rippling.

Reasons to stay with Connecteam

No alternative here puts scheduling, a time clock, chat, forms, training courses and documents with e-sign in one app. Of the six, only 7shifts has its own training product, and Homebase is the only one where we confirmed e-sign, on its top plan. Connecteam's Small Business Plan gives a team of up to 10 most of it for free, and each paid hub is a flat price for the first 30 users ($29, $49 or $99 a month billed yearly).

Its reviews also hold up like for like. Connecteam's 49 most recent Trustpilot reviews collected through a link it shares average 4.67 (September 21 to 29, 2026). The invited reviews in our same-day samples of its competitors average 4.55 for Jibble (49 reviews), 4.47 for Deputy (30), 4.22 for Homebase (93) and 3.61 for 7shifts (31). And if the location setting is your worry, Connecteam says it doesn't store location while an employee is clocked out.

If cost is the issue, check whether the free plan or a single hub covers what you use before you move your team. Current prices are on our Connecteam pricing page.
